We offer a range of ladder hardware components designed specifically for custom wood loft ladders, including Top Deckers (mounting bars), ladder hooks, shepherd’s hooks, rubber feet, anti-tip hardware, and bracket systems. Our hardware is designed to work with our custom ladders, and most components are also available separately for homeowners and contractors who need replacement parts or are building their own loft ladder installation.
A Top Decker is a wall-mounted rack where your ladder hooks in at the top. It is the main anchor point that holds the ladder in place — keeping it at the right angle against the wall and allowing it to be removed and put in other places when necessary. Top Deckers are installed in a horizontal position into wall studs and are available in various widths to accommodate ladders of various sizes. The Top Decker is one of the first components you need to select if you’re building a new loft installation.
The type of right hook depends on where your ladder position is relative to the edge of the loft. If your ladder rails extend over the loft floor then J-hooks or standard hooks work well and allow for easy removal of the ladder. If your ladder does not extend over the edge of the loft then L-brackets attached to the top of the ladder are the right option. The top of the ladder is 4 inches or more below the edge of the loft . ( Use shepherd’s hooks . ) If you are not sure which configuration applies to your setup, please contact us before ordering and we will help you identify the right hardware for your specific situation.
Yes – rubber feet are a vital safety feature on all free standing or leaning loft ladders. They serve two purposes, they protect your floor from scratching and denting, and they grip the floor surface so that the base of the ladder does not slide out during use. A hardwood ladder on a hardwood, tile or concrete floor can shift unexpectedly under load without rubber feet, particularly when getting on or off the bottom rung. All our ladder feet are sized to fit standard hardwood loft ladder rails.
Yes, many of our hardware customers are replacing worn or failed components on an existing loft ladder, as opposed to building a new installation. If you require a specific part – a replacement hook, a new rubber foot, a different bar width – contact us and tell us the dimensions of your existing ladder so we can confirm compatibility before you order.
The bar width should match the width of your ladder — plus a small amount of extra room on each side to allow for easy hanging and repositioning. As a rule of thumb, your Top Decker bar should be at least as wide as your ladder rails, and ideally a few inches wider. If you need the ladder to slide left or right along the bar, order a bar that is significantly wider than the ladder. If you are unsure of the right width for your setup, reach out to us with your ladder dimensions and we will help you select the correct bar size.
Yes, our hardware is designed to be easily installed by both the contractor and homeowner. Wall studs are connected to the Top Decker mounting bar with standard fasteners and the ladder hooks onto the bar. Most installations can be finished in under 30 minutes with just basic tools. With every hardware order, we offer installation guidance and are here to answer any questions you may have if you come across something unexpected during the installation process.
Our hardware is made of heavy-duty steel to support the weight of a solid hardwood ladder and the weight of daily use for many years. Where specified components are available in a powder coated finish for added durability and a clean finished look. Each product page lists hardware dimensions and load ratings. If you need to know the load for your specific application, please contact us.
Our hardware is sized and designed to fit standard custom hardwood loft ladders, including those from Country Neighbors. Our bar and bracket system is compatible with most standard ladder rail profiles and widths. However, because loft ladders differ in rail width, rail thickness and overall size, we recommend you contact us with your ladder measurements before ordering hardware to ensure it is a correct fit.
Yes – we are able to offer non-standard ladder widths for Top Decker bars and bracket configurations. If your ladder is wider or narrower than our standard listed sizes, please contact us with your exact measurements and we will build the hardware to fit. Custom hardware sizing is available for most configurations at no additional cost.
Yes , anti-tip straps do attach to the wall or floor to secure the bottom of the ladder, preventing lateral movement while climbing. This hardware is especially important in homes with children, older users, or anyone who will be using the ladder often to carry items. Anti-tip straps are a cheap safety upgrade that we strongly recommend for any loft ladder installation that doesn’t have a fixed lower anchor point.
